Well, the first night of College Football came and went last night. It was a break even night as I lost a teaser with Troy, who is overrated, but ended the night with a solid cover on Boise State.
The biggest thing to come out of last night was a right hand jab by Oregon's LaGarrette Blount after the game. If I was head coach Chip Kelly I would kick this no good thug off the team today. There is no room for that in college athletics or any sport for that matter, well except for boxing I guess. The Boise State player should also be punished for his actions.
Onto the weekend. The more I look at the card for the weekend the more I hate it. I think it's just a case of over analyzing every game. I have 3 games on the card right now and will probably add Ole Miss on Sunday.
Wake Forest - 2
Wake has more talent, more experience and oh yeah the game is at Wake Forest. Wake has 9 starters back on offense including QB Riley Skinner, who is one of the best dual threat QB's in the ACC, if not the entire nation. Wake Forest has lost a little on defense, but defense has always been a strength for coach Jim Grobe's teams.
Baylor has alot of hype this year, but I'll fade them until they prove they can go on the road and beat a good team or simply beat a good team at home. Plus, Wake Forest beat them 41-13 at Waco last season.
Kentucky - 14
This one is simple, the talent gap is hug here. Kentucky is better at every position on the field, Don't over think this game. I think the Big Blue win by 28.
Miami (OH) lost to Kent State 54-21 and to Temple 28-10 last year. Miami's new coach is Mike Haywood, formerly Notre Dame's OC, that's impressive. Miami gave up over 33 ppg last season and was 108th in rushing defense. Their starting QB returns, but he threw more interceptions(9) than touchdowns (8) last season. Plus, this game is being played in Cincinnati, which means Kentucky fans will outnumber Miami (OH) fans 3 to 1.
I might end up teasing Kentucky with Nevada also.
Buffalo +9.5
Underdog special of the week. Buffalo is a solid team with a great coaching staff. True, they did lose starting QB Willey, who threw for over 3,300 yards and 325 TD's last year, but they return their top 3 rushers including James Starks (1,333 yards and 16 TD's). The defense is experienced and should be improved this year. Buffalo won this match up 32-13 last year and I just don't see the big drop off this season.
This could be a late night special as the kick is set for 8 PM. The only thing that bothers me is the travel aspect, it's long trip from El Buffalo to El Paso.
