Welcome to the SG Sports World!

Welcome to SG Sports World, where we attempt to share our angles, picks, thoughts, and ramblings about the sports that we love.

On this site we have articles and some applications for you to use to help make your selections. Our applications are growing, but currently include:

  • The Line Assistant section provides insight when analyzing point spreads and power rankings of the various team matchups for NCAA Football and Basketball, NFL, and the NBA.
  • Track Calc is our first iPhone application that is used for horse racing. It is helpful for beginners as well as experts in trying to find the most effective way to place bets (and learn the sport).

Our articles will also expand, but currently showcase the expertise of staff authors who will be sharing their angles, picks and thoughts throughout the season.

  • JBiggy's Corner discusses a wide range of topics, mostly centered on College Football.
  • Haynes World is one of the resident horse racing gurus, however he also enjoys football which you can read about on his blog as well.
  • SG Picks is probably the least active blog, but might surprise you from time to time.

To get the most of this site, a user account will be required. It is free, but it will get you signed up for the forums, and the Line Assistant web application. You will need to register through the site to gain access to such things. The same login will be required on the forums and Line Assistant. In the future, we will be able to work off of 1 login to access all the content, but for now, you will have to sign in individually to each of parts of the site, forums, and Line Assistant. It will always be the same user name and password.

Thursday Night Plays

Game Week has arrived. The College Football season gets started Thursday night with 6 games including a match up between #12 Oregon and #14 Boise State on the Smurf Turf.

I have my plays for Thursday night below. Best of Luck to everybody this week and throughout the entire season. Let's make that money!

Boise State -4.5

Freshman, Kennedy and Leans

Well, it was announced today that USC will start Freshman QB Matt Barkley next week against San Jose State. This move kind of surprises me as I though QB Aaron Corp would get the nod based on playing in 6 games last season and having a better overall knowledge of the offense.

College Football 4.0

I have compiled information regarding teams that went over the total and under the total last season. Here is a list of the Top 10 Over/Under teams from 2008 along with the offensive and defensive production and total points per game.

USC Lineman Suffers Broken Foot

LOS ANGELES -- USC defensive lineman Armond Armstead is likely to be sidelined for six weeks after breaking his left foot in a morning practice, adding to an uncomfortably long list of early injury setbacks for the Trojans.

Illinois CB Likely Out For Season

Illinois cornerback Miami Thomas will miss the season with a torn left anterior cruciate, a school source confirmed Thursday.

Illinois coach Ron Zook said Wednesday that he believed Thomas would miss the season with what was initially diagnosed as a probable ACL tear.

Thomas, a projected starter, missed last season when he tore the ACL in his right knee.

Teams Flying East

Over the past two seasons there seems to have been a trend emerging regarding west coast teams traveling east and covering. Since 2007 there have been 8 games that matched a team from the Pacific Time Zone against a team in the Eastern Time Zone. I have included the results below. East Coast teams are 5-3 ATS since ’07.

Underrated Home Field Advantages
This is a list of a few teams that have done very well over the past few years and traditionally at home. Of course, we all know that Florida, Texas, LSU and Penn State have huge home-field advantages, but you may not know much about these teams below.
